2018 has been a busy year for Magonomia development. This will be a fairly quick year-end update and a look ahead into 2019.
Playtesting of what we’re now calling the Magonomia Quick Start went well. The playtesters were able to learn the rules without significant problems and they had fun playing the adventure. We got useful feedback on some fine points we can adjust, mostly in changing the spell selection for the pregenerated characters to make it easier to apply their spells in the adventure. We’re going to revise the pregenerated characters and the adventure, lightly revise the rules booklet, and get them published as quickly as possible. Expect an announcement in March or April.
We’re on track for full-scale Beta playtesting of Magonomia to begin in March. There are a lot of details to finish up and revise before Beta playtest can begin so the start date is not set in stone. If you’re interested in playesting Magonomia and you can get a gaming group together to play in person or online from March-May 2019, contact us and we’ll see if we can fit you in! We have several groups already but we’re looking for the Beta playtest to be fairly large.
The Kickstarter launch for the full product will come some time after the Beta playtest ends. How much later, depends on how much revision we want to make based on the playtest feedback. We’ve been well served so far by taking feedback seriously and putting in the time to make revisions.
The Quick Start game will be available at least a few months before the Kickstarter goes live, so people can get a feel for what the game is like, decide whether it’s to their liking, and, hopefully, get their friends excited about it! The schedule for 2019 is:
The playable Magonomia Quick Start and the adventure “Queen Elizabeth’s Astrologer is Missing!” will be released in March or April.
We’ll be running Magonomia demo games and an informational seminar at Gen Con 2019 in early August
